NEW ORLEANS, LA (329 AM CDT Sat May 11 2019) — The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Tornado Warning for South central St. Bernard Parish in southeastern Louisiana Northwestern Plaquemines Parish in southeastern Louisiana until 415 AM CDT. At 329 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 8 miles northeast of Myrtle Grove, or 14 miles southeast of Belle Chasse, moving northeast at 20 mph. HAZARD: Tornado and golf ball size hail. SOURCE: Radar indicated rotation. Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely. This tornadic thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of south central St. Bernard and northwestern Plaquemines Parishes. TAKE COVER NOW! Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
