RALEIGH, NC (342 PM EDT SAT MAY 11 2019) — The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Southeastern Davidson County in central North Carolina Randolph County in central North Carolina until 430 PM EDT At 342 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 11 miles west of Asheboro, moving east at 35 mph. HAZARD: 60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE: Radar indicated. Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include Asheboro, Randleman, North Carolina Zoo, Seagrove, Liberty, Ramseur, Franklinville, Staley, Ulah and Randleman Regional Reservior Marina. Straight line winds can blow down trees, power lines, and damage mobile homes and other buildings. Seek shelter in a sturdy structure until the storm has passed. Stay away from windows as flying debris generated by damaging winds can be deadly. Intense thunderstorm lines can produce brief tornadoes and widespread significant wind damage. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, it is best to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. This storm may cause serious injury and significant property damage.
