TALLAHASSEE, FL (240 PM EDT SAT MAY 11 2019) — The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Western Dougherty County in southwestern Georgia Southwestern Lee County in southwestern Georgia Northwestern Baker County in southwestern Georgia Eastern Calhoun County in southwestern Georgia Southeastern Terrell County in southwestern Georgia until 315 PM EDT. At 239 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Leary, or 10 miles northwest of Newton, moving north at 30 mph. HAZARD: 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE: Radar indicated. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include Albany, Leary, Walker, Milford, Forrester, Lockett Crossing, Palmyra, Holt, Ducker, Clarks Mill, Bermuda, Patmos and South Albany. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
