 Mesoscale Discussion 0615
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0511 PM CDT Sat May 11 2019 Areas affected...East-Central GA...West-Central/Southwest SC Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 162... Valid 112211Z - 112345Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 162
continues. SUMMARY...Isolated damaging wind gusts are expected downstream of
Severe Thunderstorm Watch 162 across far east-central GA and
west-central/southwest SC. DISCUSSION...Line of thunderstorms moving through
central/east-central GA at 40-45 kt will exit Severe Thunderstorm
Watch 162 soon. Downstream air mass is moderately unstable with
recent mesoanalysis estimating MLCAPE around 1000 J/kg. This
instability coupled with the well-organized character of the line
suggesting the line will continue across east-central GA and
west-central/central/southwest SC for the next few hours. Given the modest and predominantly uni-directional wind fields,
vertical shear is not particularly strong. As such, the damaging
wind gust will be driven primarily by wet downbursts and occasional
forward surges of the cool pool. This limits the overall severe
potential and suggestion mostly isolated coverage. After
coordination with the CHS, CAE, and GSP WFOs, a downstream watch
will not issued. ..Mosier/Hart.. 05/11/2019 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... ATTN...WFO...CHS...CAE...GSP...FFC... LAT...LON 33058248 33588256 34038202 33828117 32628086 31908207 33058248
