Areas affected...southwest Louisiana

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 161...

Valid 100635Z - 100800Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 161
continues.

SUMMARY...Threat for mainly damaging wind and possibly a brief
tornado should persist over southwest LA next couple hours. The line
of storms will approach the eastern boundary of WW 161 between 0730Z
and 08Z, and the WW can be locally extended farther east if needed
by that time.

DISCUSSION...Early this morning a line of storms near Lake Charles
LA has evolved into a bowing segment, and is moving east at 25-30
kt. The storms are situated just north of a stalled front where
low-level winds are southeasterly, promoting moist inflow from the
warm sector. Effective shear from 40-50 kt is sufficient to maintain
organized structures within the line, but the outflow dominant
nature of the storms suggests damaging wind will remain the primary
threat. Storms should remain organized as they continue east next
couple hours. However, with time they may move slightly farther into
the cool side of the front, but this might become offset to some
degree by a slight northward advance of the boundary.
