Thunderstorm Warning for Ascension Parish, LA and 2 More

NEW ORLEANS, LA (1247 PM CDT Thu Apr 18 2019) — The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for North central Ascension Parish in southeastern Louisiana Central Livingston Parish in southeastern Louisiana Southern Tangipahoa Parish in southeastern Louisiana until 130 PM CDT. At 1246 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near French Settlement, or 13 miles northeast of Gonzales, moving northeast at 55 mph. HAZARD: 60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE: Radar indicated. Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include Hammond, Amite, Ponchatoula, Amite City, Livingston, Independence, Roseland, French Settlement, Albany, Port Vincent, Springfield, Natalbany, Whitehall, Killian and Tickfaw. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 700 PM CDT for southeastern Louisiana. Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
