BALTIMORE MD/WASHINGTON, DC (609 PM EDT Sun Apr 14 2019) — The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Southwestern Madison County in northwestern Virginia Southeastern Rockingham County in western Virginia Southwestern Page County in northwestern Virginia Northeastern Albemarle County in central Virginia Greene County in central Virginia until 700 PM EDT. At 609 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Grottoes to near Crozet, moving northeast at 55 mph. HAZARD: 60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE: Radar indicated. Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles. Locations impacted include Grottoes, Shenandoah, Massanutten, Stanardsville, Free Union, Hollymead, Elkton, Ruckersville, Rocky Bar, Quinque, Port Republic, Lydia, Stony Point, Haneytown, Newtown, Amicus, Mcgaheysville, Montevideo, Shady Grove and Mcmullen. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 300 AM EDT for central, western and northwestern Virginia. Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.
